On This Day: 9 March 1686/87

On this day in 1687, Bowrey had been in Porto Novo (present-day Parangipettai) for almost a month. Later, whilst still here, events were going to take a very bad time and, at this time, he was already agitated over the business he had done with two local brothers for which they were refusing to pay.

Bowrey had been in the East Indies for eighteen years and was attempting to tie-up loose ends at Porto Novo. The letter sent to him today from Fort St George by Rodrigues at least carried good news about the markets at Aceh and told his that there was money on the way to him.
