On This Day: 28 March 1704

On this day in 1704, Bowrey paid H Charlton £4/0/0 for taking care of ye Duck Yaut for ye year 1703.

It is not clear who Charlton was but he did a great deal of work associated with both the Duck Yacht and the St. George for Bowrey and was probably a shipwright or chandler on the Thames.

The Duck was the small yacht Bowrey bought for his recreation once he returned from the East Indies and is a rare insight into his off-duty life.. That he needed to keep the yacht in Charlton’s yard implied that it did not get much time for that recreation.
