On this day in 1662, William Wood wrote from Wapping to Sir William Batten at the Admiralty requesting that they be allowed five or six days in order to be able to get Captain Bowrey’s ship into good condition.
It is likely that this Captain Bowrey was John, Captain Thomas Bowrey’s uncle, although it may have been his father. Both men were in the Royal Navy at the time. mostly on convoy duty. William Wood is presumed to be a Wapping shipwright.
This is just one item from a wealth of material in the Domestic State Papers of the time.
