On This Day: 10 May 1687

On this day in 1687, Robert Masfen wrote to his business partner Bowrey at Porto Novo complaining about the delays Ahmed Mascar was causing to their trade. It is clear that the pair’s relationship with this man was deteriorating.

Masfen was attempting to buy rice and paddy (unhusked rice) but Mascar’s man was loading it onto his ship far too slowly.

This failing relationship was to have terrible consequences for Bowrey in a few days time.
