On this day in 1707, Bowrey paid John Dennis £10/18/9 in respect of a portion of the wages due to Solomon Middleton for his service on the Rising Sun according to his power of attorney.
My immediate question was whether Solomon Middleton was related to Bowrey’s Middleton cousins. Annoyingly, despite his relatively unusual name, I have been unable to determine who Solomon’s parents were.
He married Ann Browne in Whitechapel and baptised children there and at Stepney. He lived at Ratcliffe, the next hamlet along from Wapping but so did many other mariners. It may be simply a coincidence.
