On this day in 1685, Bowrey was frustrated.
He had spent the previous few days ashore at Aceh attempting to obtain permission to land and sell his cargo. His attempts had been thwarted by the local official who was, according the Bowrey, claiming to be sick despite being well. He did not believe the claim but could do nothing about it.
Having finally obtained the permissions he required, this morning the wind was blowing fresh and he was unable to return to his ship at anchor in the harbour. This adverse weather continued all day.
