On this day in 1685, the previous day’s frustrating weather had improved and Bowrey was finally able to board his ship at Aceh.
Having done so, he return ashore with his necessaries and 10 bales of his own cargo – that is 10 bales of textiles he was selling on his own account rather than in his business partnership with Masfen. Bowrey’s priority was ever his own interests. He was gratified that, because of the privileges granted to the English, his chests were passed by the Customs House without being opened.
He took everything to the house he had rented close to the catacombs and bazaar. He would have preferred to live by the river from where he could keep an eye on his ship but there had been now house available there.
